Type Of Service
Type of Service ist ein 8-Bit-breites Feld im IP-Header. Dieses Feld dient als Basis für QoS-Mechanismen zur Paketklassifikation wie CAR.
Die ursprüngliche Bedeutung wurde im RFC 791 so definiert:
Bits 0-2: IP Precedence Bits
Bit 3: 0 = Normal Delay, 1 = Low Delay
Bit 4: 0 = Normal Throughput, 1 = High Throughput
Bit 5: 0 = Normal Reliability, 1 = High Reliability
Bits 6-7: Reserved for Future Use
Im RFC 2474 wurde dann wie folgt aufgeteilt:
Bits 0-5: DSCP (Differentiated Services Code Point)
Bits 6-7: CU (Currently unused)
Und der RFC 3168 trifft folgende Aufteilung:
Bits 0-5: DSCP (Differentiated Services Code Point)
Bits 6-7: ECN (Explicit Congestion Notification)
